Presentation Easels

Wheasel

It is a pleasant anachronism in our era of PowerPoint presentations and Bluetoothing that a device as simple as a presentation easel remains an essential business tool. To assist you with these low-tech lecture accessories, we've provided some tips on presentation easel types and how best to use them.

Types of Presentation Easels
The flipchart easel is much like a book in its use of paper for easy reference (and as we all know, book design has needed little change in the last 500 years). Some modern flipchart easels provide a whiteboard background with an unobtrusive pad holder for easy switching.

Reversible whiteboard presentation easels offer extra writing space that's accessible with just a flick of the wrist. The downside to a whiteboard easel is that though easily reused, it won't retain the same volume of information as a flipchart easel that uses paper.

If you want presentation easels that are decorative as well as functional, display easels designed with aesthetics in mind can look very elegant in an office setting. Materials such as brass or hardwood help display easels transcend the utilitarian look so common in the corporate workplace.

Using Presentation Easels
Presentation easels are simple tools, but even a seasoned lecturer could use a few presentation tips. With that in mind, here are some of the key elements of putting on a great easel presentation.

  • Remember your readers
Presentation easels are most effective when written on in neat and legible characters using dark colors. Size your words with readers in mind, adding about 1/2 inch per 10 feet of room space.
  • Hide your notes
A simple way to avoid visibly referencing notes is to jot them down beforehand on the easel paper using a light pencil.
  • Talk to the hand?
Try to avoid talking into the presentation easel as you write. Your voice will be muffled and more difficult for listeners to hear.
  • Break a leg
If you're an enthusiastic lecturer, consider using an easel with four legs instead of three. That way a surprise mishap won't leave your presentation easel without a leg to stand on.
